Providence's high school basketball outcomes - Central H.S. Boys' State Champions and more

In old news with which I am catching up, congratulations to Providence's Central High School's Knights, Rhode Island state boys' basketball champions! On March 10, they beat Hope High School for the title per the ProJo story below.

ProJo:
Central overcame an 11-point halftime deficit and Jerelle Washington scored a game-high 28 points as the Knights defeated Hope, 66-59, for the boys basketball state title at the Ryan Center.
Jarrell Lawson added 16 for Central while Daniel Mendez and Brownell Dennis each had 11.
Hope was led by Manny Kargbo's 16 points.

In girls' basketball, Providence's Juanita Sanchez High School beat Middletown in the Division III finals and Classical lost to Narragansett in the Division II finals.

And a question for readers into high school sports: what's the best online source for RI high school sports coverage? Cox's Varsity Blog is useful - wondering if there are other good sites.

Kudos to Central High School for NEASC accreditation

The ProJo reports that Providence's Central High School has received initial accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). NEASC's Commission on Public Secondary Schools awards accreditation after a school meets benchmarks and standards as assessed by self-study and visits from evaluators. Central joins four other NEASC-accredited Providence high schools -- Classical, Hope, E-Cubed, and PAIS @ the Juanita Sanchez Education Complex -- and 40 accredited high schools statewide. Here's the full list of RI high schools with full accreditation; William B. Cooley Health Science Technology High School @ the Juanita Sanchez Education Complex is a candidate for accreditation.

Kudos to Central for meeting the NEASC standards - all high schools should, of course, and while we support them all to do so, we can celebrate the achievement of those that do.

Celebrating Central High School Girls' Softball: Division III State Champions!!!

Kudos to Providence's Central High School's girls' softball team for winning the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division III Championship! The undefeated Knights beat the Central Falls High School Warriors in a best of three series on Sunday, June 5 at Rhode Island College. The ProJo's coverage is here.

Except for the standings listed on the Rhode Island Interscholastic League's site, that ProJo story is the only coverage that I can find anywhere. Not for the first time do I wish that there were a blog or other site that covered high school sports in Providence.  Calling aspiring sports journalists . . .
